    Short Version
The roses event is, in my opinion, creating too much unfriendly competition between players.
I would suggest for the future, making the event be something where prizes are given based on the total amount of roses a person has collected.
For example, after 500 roses a player might get a vote key, after 1000, claim blocks, and so on. In order to keep people motivated, and keep the top prizes exclusive, the biggest prize could “cost” an absurd amount of roses that only the most dedicated players would be able to collect.
    Pros:
    • Includes more people

    • Gives everyone a chance to win smth

    • Keeps the top prizes exclusive

    • Dissuades players from selling roses

*people compete against themselves instead of other players
    Long Version

Unfortunately, the new roses event is becoming just as toxic as HSB became. It pits players against each other, and while friendly competition is fun, the cut throat competition at play is not what I think of when I think of Peaceful farms. While I don’t think anything should be changed during this event, maybe in the future consider something where prizes are given based on the total amount of roses a person has collected.

For example, after 500 roses a player might get a vote key, after 1000 claim blocks, and so on. In order to keep people motivated, and keep the top prizes unique, the biggest prize could “cost” an absurd amount of roses that only the most dedicated players would be able to collect.

In this case, the competition is against oneself instead of other players in the community, which would hopefully decrease tensions.

Additionally, having smaller prizes allows for players who spend less time on the server to also partake in the event. As it is now, it would be nearly impossible for any average player to reach the thousands of roses that the leaderboard has. Smaller prizes for smaller increments, would make the event more accessible to all. Furthermore, it may dissuade players from selling their roses to the people offering the most money for them. With the leaderboard so high above most of us, it seems pointless to try at all, we might as well make some money off of them. Smaller prizes would give everyone something to work towards, meaning we could still be rewarded for our work.

The best thing about Peaceful Farms is the community and this event is driving them apart.

All in all, the new rose event is great, they give me extra motivation to farm, and something fun to spend my time on. :)

I disagree, competition is a good thing in such a passive server. If u dont want to compete, than dont.
If u cant play for 10s of hours everyday to get on the leaderboard u can sell ur roses to someone who does sweat this game.

and furthermore, i’d be weird to change an event midway through it..

but hey! That just a fucking opinion of mine

We've talked about the possibility of giving rewards to everyone who participated or cash per rose reward system but we are still unsure if we are going to do anything. The lucky thing is we have all the data so we can give rewards even in March if we plan on doing so!

Addintaly, you have brought up some good points and we will take this into consideration if we do the rose event again!

Normally I don't like to say anything or leave comments in the forums unless it's a lol or two but I also strongly disagree. Competition is a good way to have fun. It shows how hard you work for something that you really want (this is good for people because it makes them appreciate what they earned), it creates a new way to challenge your friends to some friendly rivalry and can be all-around fun. Also, brings a bit of reality to the game. Nothing in life is free, you have to work for what you want. Life isn't fair nor will it ever be... On that note, I worked hard on Carrot to stay on the board. I didn't buy any roses, I farmed them all myself and I will continue to do so until the competition is over. The only thing I see are PEOPLE making it toxic, not the competition itself. PEOPLE are driving each other apart, a competition is what it is. This also shows how immature people are acting on Peaceful Farms and I agree that needs to stop. I would also like to apologize if this hurts anyone's feelings, that is not my intention; I'm just ranting. I'm frustrated and tired of hearing about this. Also, if you feel like I'm directing this at you, personally; I'm not singling out anyone but talking about PF players in general.

I think the real issue here is that we have yet to discover Obama's last name.

(but seriously I second Bubbles on this 100% competition is extremely important, it makes players feel pride and happiness. Think about it , when was the last time you were excited to get a participation award or an E for effort and felt proud of it?)

Hey there! You bring up some great points, but I don't think you understand the idea I'm putting forward.

It's hard to explain but the best way I can put it is relating it to girl scout cookies. If you've ever sold cookies or tried to raise money for one of those organizations, hopefully you'll understand what I'm talking about.

On the back of the Girl Scout cookie order forms there were "prizes" a person could win for selling certain amounts of boxes of cookies. Maybe a bandana for 20 boxes or Craft kit for 50, but the big prizes were always something like a bike or easy-bake oven, and those required hundreds of boxes sold. That is what I'm suggesting.
After a person returns 1000 roses they can get a small reward, maybe a vote key, after 2000 maybe some claim blocks and so on. Only the most dedicated players will be able to get the "bike" worth tens of thousands of roses.

I completely agree, hard work should be rewarded, and this is not a "participation trophy" type idea. Players would compete with themselves, rather than with the community, making the prizes available to anyone (without the 10 person limit) but ensure only the most dedicated players, like you, actually receive the top rewards.

Finally, I also agree that the event itself is not toxic, it is people making it toxic. Unfortunately, I don't see peoples attitude towards the event changing any time soon, and because people can not handle the event, it may have to be changed in the future.

Thanks for your response and your ideas, I hope this helps you understand my suggestion! : )

I think this is a much better idea. I think it allows small, new players a chance who don't yet have large farms and I do like the idea of challenging oneself instead of others. It definitely still allows highly competitive, dedicated players to challenge themselves and prove their dedication, but also allows the involvement of all even if they can't spend much time on the servers (for whatever reason) or don't have the farm capacity to compete. The numbers are starting to get so high that unless you have a large farm already, it's really tough! I totally understand the other replies, but I definitely think this idea is maybe a better option.
